Injured, bruised, broken or even torn off fingers because of doors slamming shut. More than 40.000 children in the UK and 7000 children in the Netherlands visit the Accident and Emergency department for treatment of these injuries every year.

However, the real number of child finger injuries is much higher than reported by the Council for Consumers and Safety. Most cases of finger injuries occurred in the children's own homes or in school. In Holland alone 10,000 victims of all ages visited A and E for treatment of injuries to their fingers in 1998.
